A Sustainable Future

More than just a dream.

We believe that a sustainable future is more than just a dream. We are committed to doing our part in making meaningful and lasting change to help build a sustainable future for everyone.

We are on a journey of continuous education and improvement with all stakeholders, engaging with our team members, suppliers, government and non-government bodies to make change for the greater good.

We, as part of the Just Group, continue to be committed to the highest standards of ethical conduct and sourcing practices, knowing it is our responsibility to assess, address and respect the human rights of all workers in our supply chain. As our business evolves, our governance practices are adapted to meet new challenges and changing conditions.

We are not sleeping. We are actively working to make a sustainable future more than just a dream.

Ethical Souring

Peter Alexander is committed to the highest standards of ethical conduct and responsible sourcing practices across all stages of our supply chain.

We share our customers' full engagement in understanding where our products come from, how products are made, that they are sourced responsibly and ethically, and the way that people who manufacture those products are treated. Peter Alexander is continuously working to advocate, protect and improve living and working conditions across all stages of our supply chain.

Working With Suppliers

With our product designed in Melbourne, Australia, we partner with a small group of long-term manufacturers in China and India who share our values, ethics and commitment to ethical conduct and responsible practices.

Our strong policies, assurance programs and auditing processes back our commitment to ethical sourcing, enabling us to make responsible sourcing decisions and ensure any risks within our framework are identified, managed and mitigated.

Our best practice ethical sourcing program includes:

  • Our work with ELEVATE Our global audit and compliance partner, a global market leader in Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG), sustainability and supply chain services.
  • Annual 3rd party audits for all factories Elevate Responsible Sourcing Assessments or other approved audit types.
  • Remediation & Corrective Action Plan Management To close out any issues in audits.
  • Production Verification Assessments To ensure product is only made in approved factories.
  • Anonymous Worker Sentiment Surveys To understand the experience of workers.

In addition, we are a supporter brand member of the Association of Professional Social Compliance Auditors. This increases the professionalism and integrity of the people and organisations that conduct social compliance audits in the countries we source from.

Our work provides us with data driven information into our factory partners. With transparency and integrity being key values of our program, we continue to develop the necessary training and remediation programs to address any issues that are identified.

Ethical Code of Conduct We believe that everyone has the right to work and live free from exploitative practices. We have a strict Supplier Ethical Code of Conduct in place which has been written using the key human rights principles from International Labour Organization (ILO) core standards and The United Nation's Guiding Principles on Human Rights (UNGPs). All suppliers must sign our supply Terms and Conditions, of which the Supplier Ethical Code of Conduct is part, prior to any orders being placed.

Living Wage A Living Wage will provide workers with compensation for a regular working week that meets their basic needs as well as a level of discretionary income. In addition to compliance to local laws, we strongly encourage all suppliers to pay workers a living wage. Our full position on Living Wage with our work to date and future milestones can be read here.

Modern Slavery We have a zero tolerance to modern slavery in all its forms, and recognise the critical role we play in helping to reduce its incidence.

Peter Alexander is part of Premier Investments Limited (ASX:PMV), and our Modern Slavery Statements further outline our Ethical Sourcing program and actions to address Modern Slavery in the supply chain.

Environmental Impact

Peter Alexander is committed to reducing the impact we have on the environment by introducing more sustainable practices.

We are including more sustainable fabrics into our collections, without compromising the comfort and luxury you know and love. We are committed to continuing to source new alternatives which have a more positive impact on our environment.

GOTS Certified Organic Cotton The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is a leading internationally recognised organic textile standard. Products carrying GOTS certification contain an assurance of organic origin, as well as environmentally and socially responsible processing.

To find out more, visit the GOTS website.

Recycled polyester Our styles featuring recycled polyester use existing materials in the supply chain to help create new fabric. With a lower reliance on resources such as water and energy, these fabrics leave a smaller impact on our environment.

Better Cotton Peter Alexander partner with Better Cotton to improve cotton farming globally.

Better Cotton's mission is to help cotton communities survive and thrive, while protecting and restoring the environment.

Better Cotton trains farmers to use water efficiently, care for soil health and natural habitats, reduce use of the most harmful chemicals and respect workers' rights and wellbeing.

Better Cotton is sourced via a chain of custody model called “mass balance”. This means that Better Cotton is not physically traceable to end products, however, Better Cotton Farmers benefit from the demand for Better Cotton in equivalent volumes to those we ‘source'.

The Just Group is committed to sourcing at least 25% of our cotton as Better Cotton by 2025.

Peter Alexander does not condone any form of animal cruelty and have banned the use of angora and other rabbit hair, fur, as well as feathers in our products. We have also adopted the EU standard whereby we prohibit the use of azo dyes.

Packaging While we think our packaging is good enough to keep and repurpose, we are working as a signatory to the Australian Packaging Covenant to adapt and develop more sustainable alternatives. From the use of recycled materials and Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification to including the display of relevant Australasian Recycling Labels (ARLs) on our packaging, bags and tags, we are taking steps to source consciously and promote recycling to our customers.

By the end of 2023, we plan to ensure our product swing tag fastenings are made from a cotton string, while our product swing tags will be updated to be FSC Mix and recyclable. To find out more about FSC, visit their website.

Our Penny shopping bags you know and love are now made from a minimum of 40% recycled materials and are 100% recyclable (including their paper made handles).

Our online satchels are made using 100% post-consumer recycled plastic (PCW) and are certified by GECA (Good Environmental Choice Australia) for PCW and socially responsible manufacturing.
